About
The Nova Scotia Dietetic Association (NSDA) is a Regulatory Body committed to ensuring the competency of Dietitians/Nutritionists in Nova Scotia. In order to be licensed to practice as a Professional Dietitian/Nutritionist in Nova Scotia, membership with NSDA is MANDATORY. NSDA’s key mandate is the Registration, Quality Assurance and Discipline of Dietitians practicing in Nova Scotia. The practice of Dietetics in Nova Scotia is governed by the Professional Dietitians Act.
As of 2005, we have 410 members.
NSDA is a member of the Alliance of Dietetic Regulatory Bodies. The Alliance of Dietetic Regulatory Bodies developed the Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA). NSDA is a signatory on the Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA). The MRA was negotiated across Canada to expedite registrations when a dietitian moves to another province.
The Structure:
The functions of NSDA are completed by a Registration Coordinator, a volunteer board and volunteer committees.

REQUIREMENTS
In order to be licensed to practice as a Professional Dietitian (P.Dt.) / Nutritionist in Nova Scotia, the applicant must complete the following requirements:
1. A Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics/Nutrition from an educational institution accredited by
Dietitians of Canada or an equivalent educational background.
2. A Dietetic Practicum, which meets the competency standards established by Dietitians of
Canada or the equivalent.
3. Successful completion of the Canadian Dietetic Registration Examination (CDRE).

Utdannet ved Universitetet i Oslo i 1992 hadde Asbjørn internatet ved Oslo universitetssykehus og fikk sin medisinske grad derfra i 1994. Asbjørns første jobb etter endt utdanning var et samarbeid med vennen Dr. Ernst Velde ved Oslo universitetssykehus. Praksisen deres ble raskt en av de mest populære i byen, og trakk inn mange pasienter fra hele området. Til slutt doblet de i størrelse med tillegg av to andre leger i 1996, i tillegg til et laboratorium på stedet og røntgen, sparte de pasienter for problemer med å måtte beholde disse tjenestene andre steder.
Asbjørn er respektert både blant pasienter og kolleger for sin forståelse og medfølelse. Hans evne til å hjelpe en pasient gjennom vanskelige tider hjelper ved at han også har håndtert sine egne personlige helsekamper i løpet av karrieren. I 1999 fikk Asbjørn diagnosen lungekreft i trinn 2, noe som tvang ham til å ta 6 måneder fra behandlingen. Diagnostisert som kreftfri i 2003, vendte han tilbake på jobb og har blitt drevet siden den gang for å sikre at pasienter er trygge og sikre i helsen.
